Kida Rules out Third Term Bid, As NBF Congress Fixes October 15 For Election
Speculations on whether or not the President of Nigeria Basketball Federation Engr. Musa Kida will be gunning for a third term was finally put to rest on Friday, September, 25, 2026 when he announced that he’ll not be participating in the forthcoming election.
According to a communique issued after the Federation’s Extra Ordinary Congress held at City Green Hotel, Yola Adamawa State, he
said that he has never been part of any plans to subvert the NBBF approved constitution and and that he intends to ensure a free, fair and credible election that will usher in new leadership that will pilot the affairs of the federation for the next four years
He charged all those that are interested in elective positions to feel free to contest just as he spoke on the need for campaigns to be issue based.
“I want to assure everyone interested in participating in the election that it will be transparent and credible.
” They should carry out their campaigns based on issues, honour and dignity and avoid derogatory statements or actions capable of causing heating up the system”, he advised.
The NBF President was full of praise and appreciation to the President and Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu , for fully redeeming all the promises he made to the D’Tigress after winning the prestigious Afrobasket Championships for an unprecedented 5th time as well as remaining unbeaten on the African continent for over 8 years.
Engr. Kids while thanking the Governor and people of Adamawa State for agreeing to host the extra ordinary congress, was full of praise the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko and the, DG Bukola Olopade, for their unwavering support towards the tremendous growth and stability of the NBBF.
Meanwhile, the Congress unanimously approved that the Elective congress will hold on the 15th of October, 2026 in Abuja, the FCT, at 10am
A 7 man electoral committee headed by
Dr. Lanre Glover was set up. Other members of the committee are; Sr. Femi Olugbile, Engr
Priscilla Ngozi Iroaganachi, Alhaji. Sani Fema, Major General David Lubo and Mallam Farouk Yarma, while
Barr. Ichene Kalu will serve as secretary of the committee
The Congress also approved that elections into the Technical representative, Players representative and other affiliate bodies will hold in Abuja between the 7th to the 14th of October, 2026.
The Congress also approved the Constitution of a 3 man Elections Appeals Committee to be headed by Barr. Emmanuel Okibe with Ms.Chichi Nwoko and
Mr. Emmanuel Zira as the secretary
A total of 39 delegates out of 44 took part in the Congress.
