Lagos information whitewash Voice of Nigeria 7-2 , as NUJ Media Games Begins
..Council Chairman Promises Exciting Competition

It was goal galore on Monday, October, 5, 2026, as Lagos State Ministry of Information handed a heavy defeat to Voice of Nigeria in the opening match of this year’s Lagos NUJ Media Games
The 5- a-side football match which heralded the official kick off of the Games, saw both teams giving a good account of themselves to the admiration of journalists from various media houses who defiled the heavy downpour of the day to be part of the opening ceremony.
Played at Keke Primary School, Agege, 5-a-side pitch, VON drew the first blood in the opening minutes of the match, before Lagos Information rediscovered themselves to hand them a 7-2 defeat.
Meanwhile, in the other matches of Day 1 of the Games, Lagos Traffic Radio walked over ‘The Nation’ Newspapers.
Vanguard media recorded another walkover against Guardian, with Lagos Television men and women teams walking over their counterparts from FMMC.
Declaring the Games open, Chairman of the NUJ, Lagos Council, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi, expressed happiness that the Games is coming nine years after the last edition, noting that it will help journalists reduce stress of the newsroom, exercise themselves, keep fit and healthy, burn out calories as well as compete in a conducive atmosphere.
Ajayi, while promising an exciting tournament explained that journalism profession is a very tasking job and that accounted for council dedicating one week of sporting activities for it’s members even as he commended journalists for coming out in their numbers to be part of the Games
“I’m happy that we’re able to organize this Games nine years after we had the last one and you can see the enthusiasm on the faces of our members.
“Kudos must also go to the various media houses for coming out today in their numbers despite the heavy downpour to be part of the opening ceremony.
“As we embark on the weeklong tournament, I urge my members to compete fairly and see the competition as an avenue of recreation and relaxation.
In his remarks, Chairman of the 2026 NUJ Media Games Sports Committee, Ayo Ojedokun, expressed appreciation to Agege and Amuwo- Odofin Local Government Areas, SFAS Group, Coca cola and Nestle Foods for identifying with the Council to improve the mental alertness of journalists, with an appeal to other corporate organizations to emulate them and take advantage of the window provided by the Games to promote their products.
He further stated that the opening football match has shown that journalists don’t just seat in the news room reporting but that they also have skills.
Also speaking, Head Technical of the Games, Joe Apu announced that all logistics have been put in place for a successful outdoor and indoor sports of the Games.
He listed some of the sports to be completed for to include; Chess, Ludo, Draught, Ayo Olopon, Scrabble, Table Tennis and 100m race.
The Games continues Today with football matches at Keke Primary School Agege while the indoor Games takes centre stage from 10 am at the council’s secretariat, Ikeja.
