Tournament top-ranked player Abdulmumeen Jimoh has hit the top spot with a blistering record after he secured 10 wins from the opening 11 rounds of the 2026 Lekki Scrabble Classics on Saturday.
Jimoh accumulated +1029 points to feather his lead in Division A ahead of other contenders as he only dropped a game in Round 9 on the first day of the 18-round premium championship.
However, Olufemi Gbadebo was able
to check his run with a 462 -376 result before he picked up two more wins in the last two rounds of the day.
Second-placed Anthony Odok leads a band of eight players with 8 wins and 3 loses with varied cumulative points separating them.
Meanwhile, African champion Oluwatimilehin Doko falls into the next set of eight players on the standings with 7 wins with 4 defeats.
In Division B, Babatunde Adeagbo occupied the top spot with a total of 10 wins with a single defeat ahead of 111 players.
The Children Category which was a newly introduced event also added more colour to the championship as the young ones engaged one another in an atmosphere of calm and comfort.
President of the Lekki Scrabble Club Engr. Samuel Anikoh said the Classics is living up to expectations.
“The Day 1 of the Lekki Scrabble Classics has been really good despite the late start due to the Lagos State monthly environmental exercise but overall it’s been good.I have seen a lot of commaderre among the players. It’s really interesting seeing the kids having fun while playing. They got to understand the rules of organised scrabble. It’s really been competitive going by the games that were shown online, I noticed that a lot of the players are really fighting for the top prize. I’m looking forward to Day 2 for an event more excitement as we round up the event” he said.
Seven round of games will be played today Sunday which is the concluding day of the prestigious tournament.
