Louis Edem Foundation Announces Women’s West Africa Basketball Championship 2026 in Lagos
The Louis Edem Foundation has announced the highly anticipated Women’s West Africa Basketball Championship 2026, scheduled to take place from August 1st to August 9th, 2026 at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
The championship will bring together some of the best women’s basketball clubs and athletes from across West Africa, including Nigeria, Ghana, Benin Republic, Togo, and other neighboring countries, in what promises to be one of the biggest women’s basketball events in the region.
The tournament is part of the Foundation’s broader mission of using sports as a tool for youth empowerment, education, leadership development, and social transformation across Nigeria and Africa.
Speaking ahead of the championship, foundation’s President and former D’Tigers power forward, Louis Edem reiterated his commitment to creating opportunities for young people through basketball and education, especially at a time when Nigeria continues to face alarming levels of youth unemployment and economic hardship.

Earlier in January 2026, the Louis Edem Foundation successfully organized a Women’s U-18 Basketball Camp in Jos, Northern Nigeria, where young female athletes from different communities participated in elite basketball training, mentorship sessions, and leadership development programs.
At the conclusion of the camp, the foundation awarded academic scholarships to four outstanding girls, reinforcing its commitment to ensuring that talented young athletes have access not only to sports opportunities but also to quality education.
