Dynamite Opens: Excitement hits scrabble community as tourney returns

After a hiatus of one year occasioned by the Covid19 pandemic, the scrabble community has been stirred into an exciting atmosphere as organisers have revealed plans for the third edition of the Dynamite Opens category tournament which will hold at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos from April 2-3 this year.

The tournament was created as a platform for upcoming and open-rated players to hone their board skills for places into the Intermediate and Masters categories.

According to a statement released by the organizers, “the tournament was launched in 2018 in order to create an environment for newbies and lower rated players to develop by playing tournaments among themselves.”

Then known as Lautech Opens in 2018 when the tournament was birthed, “It has been evident that the dreams of organizing the tournament is yielding positively as the past two winners are now in the Intermediate category both having potentials to be in the masters category in the nearest days” the statement stated.

This year’s event was strategically scheduled to serve as a preparatory tournament for the festival.

Registered players for major national competitions like the forthcoming National Sports Festival have been displaying a high degree of enthusiasm since the date of the competition was announced.

A star prize of 100,000 naira will be on offer at the competition which has been endorsed by top personalities as well as sponsor in Scrabble family notably; the Nigeria Scrabe Friends, PENHILLS, MADOM GLOBALS, DANO MILK,
MGI, Chief Toke Aka and
Nigeria Scrabble Federation’s Player’s Representative Kayode Fashola.
Others are; Lekki Scrabble Club, Femi “The Champ” Awowade, Segun Durojaye and  Ebikeme Adowei.

Meanwhile, interested individuals from the Opens, Institution and U-18, according to Khaleel  Adedeji, who is the brain behind the tournament will have to register with a sum of 5,000, 3,000 and 2,000.

It would be recalled that Olufemi Gbadebo of  LAUTECH won the inaugural edition while Alagbada Babajide of FUNAAB claimed the top position in the second edition in 2019.
