Ohaneze Ndigbo makes pro- wrestling commitment as Explosive power tussle ends in Lagos

Members of Ohaneze Ndigbo, a social cultural organization has plegded to compliment the efforts of President of Nigeria Pro- Wrestling Federation, High Chief John Uche in making the sports regain its lost glory.
They gave the commitment when the Lagos State chapter of the body led by it’s President, Chief Solomon Aguene attended a wrestling tournament tagged ‘Explosive Power Tussle’ held Saturday night at the Meals and Events Center, Okota, Lagos.
According to the body, the wrestling boss whom they described as a mobilizer has through his involvement in the mats man game helped in giving hope to Nigerian youths and vowed to work closely with him towards ensuring that the golden age of the sports which in the 70’s through 90’s attracted thousands of fans is restored.
Chief Aguene who was accompained by top echelons of the body and Igbo traditional rulers in Lagos where held spell bound by the performance of the wrestlers and decalared that they will partner with the Federation to give a new lease of life to the sports.
“What we saw today impressed us a lot because we never taught this thing is real but having been at the ring side watching these fighters display their talent we will definitely help them achieve stardom.
” The President of Wrestling Federation is one of our own and a former President of Ohaneze, Ndi- Igbo and we”ll continue to support him to take the sports to a higher level. In doing this, we shall use our good offices and make case on behalf of the Federation to both government and corporate organizations towards ensuring that subsequent editions of the championship attracts patronage”, he declared.
The wrestling boss told our correspondent that the fight is one of series of tournaments lined up to be held in semi- urban arears where its hoped the game will attract more folowership even as he noted that his plan is to be having monthly championships.
“This is just the beginning of better things to happen in Nigerian wrestling. My plan is to be organizing monthly tournaments to keep the wrestlers busy and in October there is going to be an international championship to celebrate the country’s 62 years of Independence but we cannot do it alone because of the money involved and that’s why am appealing to corporate Nigeria to partner us as we take professional wrestling to another level”, he stressed.
Meanwhile, in the first fight of the night, Flying Danko surmounted all odds to beat the duo of Mighty Progress and Power Vick who stormed the ring with a motorcycle to intimidate their opponent while Mr. Sharpman used a combination of acrobatic display and experience to gain a pinfall against Zion Lion who before the fight boasted that his opponent will not last more than three minutes in the ring.
In the female grudge fight between Stylish J and Iron Lady Becky supported by Lady Alexandra, it was declared a draw just as Strong Bone Erukujeje defeated Black Power in the last fight of the night.
The tournament was put together by Gold Wrestling Association in conjunction with the Nigeria ( Pro) Wrestling Federation.
