NBBF/Zenith Bank Basketball League: MFM beat Elephant Girls, reclaim title

It was a nervy final moment for MFM Women Basketball team in the final of the 2026 NBBF/Zenith Bank Basketball League, winning the final after overtime against First Bank in the game played at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos on Saturday evening.

MFM failed to make it three titles in a row last year after losing to First Bank in the semi-final and were on the verge of losing the title this time around in the final after letting go of their lead towards the end of the 4th quarter, as the game dragged to overtime with the regulation time ending 56-56 points.

MFM won the first three quarters 11-6, 13-12 and 19-17 before capitulating 21-13 in the final quarter to give the Elephant Girls the hope of winning their record 10th title, but MFM won their 3rd title in four years during overtime, winning 10-8 points to emerge champion, as they won all their matches during the 2026 league season albeit beating First Bank three times.
Nigeria Customs won the third place game, beating ASO SKY Queens 51-38 points for the bronze medal.
