Netball: Team Nigeria set for Africa Showdown in Kenya–Aluko


The Nigeria National Netball team, the Green Hawks will on Saturday 19 September, 2026, begin their first ever appearance on the continental stage when they join other African nations to compete for honours at the Africa Cup holding in Kenya from 19-26 September, 2026
Disclosing this, President of the Nigeria Netball Federation, Dr. Oluwatoyin Esther Aluko said the Federation is indeed happy to be part of the championship as they will be featuring for the first time.
“The country is happy as well as the players.
This is a great opportunity for the Green Hawks to make a strong statement in Africa Netball and I sincerely thank Almighty God for this great opportunity. we are going to make good use of it.
This is our first appearance at the Continental level and we will do our best to excel”, Aluko said.
Confident of a positive outing in Kenya, Aluko agreed that there is always a first time in everything but optimistic that the Green Hawks will make good presentation having shown good character and positive energy leading to where they are at present.
To show the country’s readiness for the Africa Cup in Kenya, Team Nigeria has named Jade Popoola as team Captain.
Just like Nigeri’s appearance for the first time, the appointment of 21 year old Jade Popoola as Team Nigeria captain is not only historic as the first ever Nigeria team captain but a clear indication that the country is fully prepared and ready for the continental showdown and good to go, come 19-26 september, 2026.
