By George Aluo

Unknown to the public, Abia State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu had before Enyimba’s CAF Confederation Cup home game against Rivers United last weekend quietly used dollars to get the best out of the Peoples’ Elephant.

A competent Enyimba source disclosed to newstap.com.ng that Gov Ikpeazu had hours before the game went straight to the camp of the team and doled out dollars to  the players, even as he charged them to go and get the job done.

Ikpeazu we further gathered told the players that should they get result in the two legged affair and qualify for the Group stage of the continental competition, he would shower them with more dollars.

It is recalled that Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike had on his part pledged to dole out N20m to Rivers United should they beat Enyimba in Aba. The game ended 1-0 in favor of Enyimba. The two teams would be on parade again this Sunday in the decider at the Adokie Amiesimaka Stadium in Portharcourt.

“Unknown to many, what Gov Ikpeazu did was to hit Enyimba camp just few hours to the match and addressed the boys. He told them to go out there and win after doling out some dollars to the boys. He has also promised to further spoil them a little should they win the return leg in Portharcourt. When the boys got and shared their dollars before the match, they resolved to go all out. That was Gov Ikpeazu’s joker that saw Enyimba fire on all cylinders. In fact, if not for the rain on that day that did not allow both teams to fully express themselves, I m sure Enyimba would have won by a wider margin,” our source said.
