NFF empathises with Rivers United FC over road accident and injuries to players and officials

The Nigeria Football Federation has expressed empathy towards players and officials of Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt who sustained minor injuries in a road accident while heading to Awka, capital of Anambra State for a 2026 President Federation Cup Round of 16 game against Nasarawa United of Lafia.

“The NFF received with shock the news of the road accident involving your players and officials around Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road on the outskirts of Port Harcourt while on the way to a President Federation Cup Round of 16 match in Awka, Anambra State.

 

“While we thank God that there were no fatalities, we empathise with those who sustained minor injuries in the accident and wish them quick recovery,” NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, said on Thursday evening.  

 

According to the fixtures released by the NFF, Rivers United FC are to take on Nasarawa United FC in Awka on Saturday with kickoff set for 4pm, with the winner going through to the quarter-finals of this year’s competition.
