By Tayo Ogunseye

Team Nigeria is expected to begin its final movement to Glasgow on Tuesday as the country steps up preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which begin in three days time.

The first batch of athletes and officials will depart the pre-Games training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland, for the host city on Tuesday, July 21, while a second batch is scheduled to move into the Games Village on Friday, July 24.

According to a statement released by Kola Daniel the Special Assistant on Media to the Director General the phased relocation follows several weeks of intensive training and acclimatisation in Aberdeen, where the contingent sharpened its preparations for the multi-sport event.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has continued to provide the team with technical, medical and welfare support as the athletes prepare to compete at the highest level.

Nigeria is expected to compete in several sports, with the country’s medal prospects boosted by a number of impressive performances at recent continental and international competitions.

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will hold from July 23 to August 2, attracting about 3,000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth Games Associations. A total of 215 gold medals will be contested across 11 sports.

Scotland will host the Commonwealth Games for the fourth time, having previously staged the event in Edinburgh in 1970 and 1986, and Glasgow in 2014.
