African volleyball championship: Nimrod calls for corporate support

Ahead of the African U-17 boys and girls volleyball championship to be hosted by the country in July this year,  President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engr. Musa Nimrod has appealed to corporate organisations in the country to support the Federation in their quest to host a beffeting tournament.

He told newstap.com.ng that the Federation is putting logistics on ground for a successful tournament but was quick to add that financial support is necessary from government and corporate Nigeria to make it a memorable championship.

” Volleyball in the country is growing fast and we’re now among the best teams in Africa and we’ll continue to build on that progress because our target is to be on top of the game.l not only in the continent but at the global level

“You’re aware that we’ve been given the hosting right for the African U-17 boys and girls championship in July this year and the Confederation of Africa Volleyball is expecting us to host a world class tournament.

“We’re equal to the task and have already started putting logistics on ground but we need adequate financial backing for us to succeed and that’s why I’m making appeal for financial support from governments at all levels and the corporate world for the event to be a huge success.

On the chances of ‘Team Nigeria’ at the tournament, he explained that it’s still too early to predict but was quick to add that the Federation has the players that can do the country proud at any time.

“It’s still too early talking about our chances at the tournament. We still have close to three months to the commencement of hostilities but what I can assure you is that our players are in top form and will hold their own in both the male and female categories against any country.
