Nigeria MiniFootball Firms Up National Team Selection For 2026 AMC Women’s Nations Cup

The Nigeria MiniFootball Association ramped up it’s process for the selection of players for the national team ahead of the 2026 Africa MiniFootball Confederation (AMC) Women’s Nations Cup taking place in Yaounde, Cameroon in late September.

Nigeria has been drafted as one of the eight teams scheduled to participate in the inaugural women’s six-aside tournament.

Players who succeeded and scaled to the next phase of selection were further grilled at the Keke Primary School Playing Field over the weekend by the national technical crew as they were joined by talents from the ongoing Lagos MiniFootball League in the battle for placement.

According to a statement issued by the Nigeria MiniFootball Association Assistant Media Director Tayo Ogunseye, selected players will feature in an exhibition match at the closing ceremony of the league tagged ‘Agege 2026’ with Agege Local Government Area Chairman Hon. Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa who doubles as the Lagos State MiniFootball Association chairman as well as other top personalities expected to attend on Sunday August 30.

The tournament is also a qualifier for the WMF Women’s World Cup.

NMA General Secretary Sheriff Tajudeen said the body is putting in all efforts while holding a strong desire to present a formidable team capable of winning the Nations Cup and reinforce the expansion of the of MiniFootball in the country and beyond the borders.

‘We are indeed making a good progress since we embarked on this process of developing MiniFootball. Nigeria is a big name in sports and as such, our reputation as the ‘Giant of Africa’ has placed us in a strategic position to make a mark and excel in what we do. That’s why all efforts are being directed at presenting a solid squad for the first Africa MiniFootball Confederation Women’s Nations Cup taking place in Yaounde, Cameroon. This opportunity excites us that’s why we are not holding back at getting the best legs to wear the green-white-green colour of our flag.’

‘Funding’, he added, ‘is one of our major challenges. I’m using this opportunity to call on our sports authority, individuals, corporate enterprises and friends of MiniFootball to be our partners by giving us their financial support in making this task achievable’ he appealed.

Other countries named by the AMC the continent’s governing body are; host Cameroon, Ghana, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Benin Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo and Kenya.
