NJF Assures Stakeholders of Transparent, Fair Electoral Process

The Caretaker Committee of the Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF) has assured stakeholders of its commitment to conducting a transparent, credible and inclusive electoral process ahead of the federation’s forthcoming elections.

In a statement issued by its chairman, Sheriff Hammed, the committee reaffirmed its independence and neutrality, stressing that its transitional responsibilities would be discharged in the best interests of Nigerian judo.

The committee’s position follows recent public comments and reports concerning its activities and mandate.

Hammed stated that although the committee operates under the authority of the National Sports Commission (NSC), it remains committed to making independent and impartial decisions throughout the transition period.

He emphasised that the committee would not serve the interests of any individual or group or allow personal and political considerations to influence the electoral process.

“The Caretaker Committee is not a mouthpiece for any individual, group or interest, nor is it a platform for advancing personal or political agendas,” the statement said.

The committee acknowledged receiving information and concerns regarding the conduct of some individuals associated with the former board but maintained that allegations and personal interests would not determine the outcome of the elections.

It added that transparency, fairness, due process and equal opportunity would remain the guiding principles for all its decisions and actions.

To guarantee a level playing field, the committee confirmed that all qualified and interested aspirants would be allowed to obtain nomination forms and contest in the forthcoming elections, provided they satisfy the eligibility requirements stipulated in the NJF statutes and other relevant governance regulations.

It also assured prospective candidates that no aspirant would be unfairly excluded because of personal disagreements, affiliations or considerations outside the established rules.

However, the committee warned against attempts to disrupt, manipulate or undermine the electoral process, noting that anyone found to have violated applicable regulations or compromised the integrity of the exercise could face appropriate sanctions.

Such sanctions, it stated, could include disqualification where justified under the relevant rules and procedures.

The caretaker committee consequently urged state associations, athletes, coaches, referees and other members of the judo community to support a peaceful and orderly transition.

“We urge all parties to pursue their interests through the appropriate channels, respect established procedures and refrain from actions capable of undermining the credibility of the electoral process,” the statement added.

Reaffirming its commitment to the development of the sport, the committee said its priorities include strengthening institutional accountability, restoring confidence in the federation and laying a solid foundation for the future growth of Nigerian judo.

It reiterated its determination to deliver a transparent, credible and orderly transition that reflects the collective interests of the sport and its stakeholders across the country.
