The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Nationwide League One (NLO), Olushola Ogunnowo, has offered study scholarships to selected Sports Writers to study Sports Journalism at a private university in London, United Kingdom.
The scholarship offer is to assist members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) to proceed to undertake Level 5 International Study Programme in the October 2026 cohort of the El Roi London University.
SWAN President, Mr Isaiah Benjamin, who confirmed the development, in a statement through the Association’s Secretary-General Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, Thursday, said the names of the beneficiaries have been forwarded to the appropriate quarters for further action.
He said, “We appreciate this gesture and gladdens our hearts. This will no doubt go a long way to help our members to improve their skills, it is important to note that we are committed towards improving the professional capacity of our members.
“Our doors are always open to welcome any form of support that will improve the working skills of our members, we want to specially thank Shola Ogunnowo for this unforgettable gesture.”
The President of SWAN noted that plans are also underway to partner individual and corporate bodies to organise an expanded capacity building for members in parts of the country.
“Training and retraining of our members will certainly enhance their capacity to carry out their duties in a more professional manner,” he said.
He said no effort is being spared to ensure that SWAN thrives on regular enhancement of human capacity building.
