NLO Cup League Format To Guarantee More Home And Away Fixtures

The NLO Secretariat has announced that the new NLO Cup will feature a home-and-away league format, ensuring more playing chances for participating clubs.
The number of matches each team plays in this format depends on the total number of teams in their zone. For example, a team in a 10-team group could play about 18 matches, with the potential for more if additional teams are involved.
Multiple teams can host their home games at the same venues, whether during the week or weekends, reducing unnecessary travel.
“A key benefit of the new NLO Cup format is the guaranteed increase in match opportunities. Instead of a single knockout fixture, the league format provides a broader schedule of competitive games,” said Dr. Olushola Ogunnowo, NLO COO, to the NLO media channel.
This expansion allows clubs to: host more home games before supporters, play more away experience matches, offer players more competitive exposure, develop young talents, increase fan and community engagement, and strengthen their sporting and commercial prospects.
Ogunnowo added: “The revitalised NLO Cup advances a more structured and competitive environment for NLO clubs. With more fixtures, players can showcase their skills, coaches can improve teams, and clubs can enhance their competitive identity.”
He also emphasised: “The home-and-away format will motivate clubs to enjoy the excitement of playing in front of supporters and to tackle the challenges of away games.”
The NLO Cup’s new design mirrors evolving football formats, aimed at giving clubs more games, exposure, and growth opportunities.
The official start date for the new NLO Cup is October 10, 2026.
To participate, eligible clubs from NLO Division 1 and the NLO Youth League U19 must pay a non-refundable registration fee of One Million Naira (#1,000,000.00). This fee covers tournament logistics and should be paid directly into the FCMB Bank Nationwide League One account: 3267800014. Proof of payment must then be sent to the NLO Secretariat for verification.
