OBINNA EGU’S MOTION ON AMALA/ALATIA ELECTRICITY SCALES THROUGH

Member Representing Ngor Okpala State Constituency and Chairman Imo State House of Assembly Committee on Science and Technology, Rt. Hon. Obinna Egu, Ph.D. has made case for Amala and Alatia Autonomous Communities to be connected to Electricity Grid.
During House of Assembly plenary on Wednesday, while moving the motion titled “ Motion to Urge His Excellency Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodimma, CON, to direct the Imo State Ministry of Power and Public Utility to work in Partnership with Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to connect Amala/Alatia Communities in Ngor Okpala LGA to Elctricity Grid”, the Lawmaker noted that since the existence of mankind, people of these communities in his constituency have not for one day witnessed Electricity unless through the use of power generating set by few individuals.
He expressed worry that this ugly situation has crumbled businesses and other economic activities in these densely populated communities and has also made living very difficult for the inhabitants of these communities. He noted further that many self help approach have been applied to remedy the situation but all proved abortive.
Hon. Egu stated sadly that the people have for long lost confidence as successive administrations failed to help them even after using it as a campaign promise. He expressed optimism that Gov. Uzodimma’s name will remain indelible in the minds of the inhabitants of these communities and the entire Ngor Okpala, if Amala/Alatia are connected to Electricity under his administration.
He asserted that the Governor, His Excellency Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodimma is a listening Governor who is committed to improving the living Standard of Imo people and as such will harken to the plea of these communities and direct the relevant agencies to Immediately step in to action.
He therefore pleaded with his Honourable Colleagues to lend their voice in support of the motion, stressing that they, people of these communities have suffered total neglect and without Electricity for too long.
The motion which was seconded by the Majority Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi of Owerri west, was unanimously endorsed after several words of commendations and Support by the Honourable members. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe thereafter directed the Clark to convey the House Resolution to the Governor.
