Okunowo, others head for Surulere as Victor Ikpeba Football Challenge ends Friday

Former Barcelona star, Gbenga Okunowo, is leading other ex-footballers, current footballers and other celebrities to Fujah Street in Surulere as the Victor Ikpeba 5-A-Side Football Challenge wraps up on Friday, June 12, for the Lagos 2026 edition.

The stage is set for the finals of the grassroots competition with a cash prize of N1 million.

Like PSG, Achievers FC players have trained so hard to retain the title they won in the 2025 edition. They set off the competition against Gantos FC, Big John, LB United, Odogwu FC, Abe Igi FC, Rock Steady, and Indomitable Lions

The winners will take home N500,000, as against the N300,000 earned last year. The second-placed team will get N250,000, while it is N150,000 and N100k for the third and fourth best teams, respectively.

The organizer of the competition, backed by Bet9ja, Victor Ikpeba, says the amount was increased to encourage more players.

“It’s our own contribution to keep the youth busy and off the wild street with something tangible. We have added to the prize money to get them more excited. I expect this increment will add value to the entire tournament,” Ikpeba said in Lagos.

The venue has been repainted and refurbished for a classy and fanfare-filled end to the event.

The competition will be held at the usual venue of the Community Centre on Fujah Street in Surulere. This will be the sixth edition of the event that ends on June 12, which is the exact birthday of the 1997 African Footballer of the Year, Victor Ikpeba (MON).

There are already eight teams in the Shitta/Akerele/Masha area ready to compete in the competition. The venue and other items are already being prepared for the usual classy ending to the event.
