FA Cup: For once, Heartland storm match venue early after Benin miracle

By George Aluo

For once, Heartland players have arrived match venue early for their Round of 16 FA Cup tie against Dakada.

The cash strapped team whose stock in trade is leaving Owerri late for match venues have arrived Asaba from Benin where they beat Rangers mid week.

A competent camp source confirmed that the team did not return to Owerri as accommodation arrangements have been made in Asaba.

According to our source this is the first time this season that Heartland would arrive a match venue early.

“Even when we went to Awka to play Rangers, a journey of less than two hours we entered Awka at night. You don’t need a soothsayer to tell you why the team went on relegation,” he said.

He was however quick to add that the team wants to use the FA Cup to make amends and celebrate something.

“The players are ready for the task ahead. Everything depends on how those running the club play their role,” our source who didn’t want to be mentioned said.

It would be noted that Heartland got relegated this season after a very shambolic performance, even as all those who led the club out of Isreal to Egypt are determined to keep their jobs despite the club’s disgraceful showing.

Interestingly, owners of the club, Imo state government appears comfortable with the present situation where those running the club have nothing to show after burning tax payers money running into millions of Naira.
