Rivers Utd, Enyimba, Insurance crash out of President Federation Cup

The surprises that is symnonious with the Federation cup continued today as Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) runners up, Rivers United crashed out in the round of 16 after losing to Nasarawa United.

The keenly contested encounter ended 2-2 at regulation time leading to penalties that ended 4-2 in favour of Nasarawa Untied.

Fans of the Pride of Rivers had tipped the team to make it all the way to the final but the defeat has dashed the hopes of the Finidi George tutored side clinching the Federation Cup after losing Premier league title to Rangers International on the last day of the league.

The Garden city boys need not lament however as they already have CAF Champions league ticket in the kitty.

Rivers United were however not the only top side that hit the exit doors. Bendel Insurance equally exited the competition after relinquishing a 3-0 first half lead against El-Kanemi to see the encounter end at 3-3 at regulation time and then losing 7-8 on penalties.

Former champions, Enyimba International of Aba also joined the casualties as they lost 4-5 on penalties to Ikorodu City.

In other matches played, Plateau United defeated Basira 2-1 to advance, Wikki Tourist got the better of Kada Warriors 3-1 while Barau eliminated Sunshine Stars U-19 2-1 just as Sokoto United defeated Adamawa United 2-0.
