AFN: Okowa promises new dawn

Sports promoter, Chief Tonobok Okowa, gunning for the leadership of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) in the June 14th election into executive positions of the body has assured stakeholders of a new dawn in the running of the foremost sports association.

He said brighter days await every athletics lover if he gets elected as the AFN President.

Okowa who is also the executive chairman, Delta State Sports Commission in a statement in Asaba, promised a sustainable welfare package for athletes and officials against the background of complaints of poor welfare programme by the AFN.

In a similar vein, he gave his word that the seeming intractable issue of funding would be tackled headlong as his administration would partner with the private sector to attract funds to the sector to reduce the burden on government which has been the major source of funds.

The factionalisation of the apex sports body was not lost on the Delta sports boss as he said he will make concerted efforts to unite the factions in a reconciliatory move that every stakeholder will appreciate.

He also touched on what is generally referred to as the golden era of athletics in the country when athletes, especially home based had opportunities to compete at various meets saying he will restore it.
