Sam Okwaraji Secondary Schools U-16 Championship: St Dominics crowned champions of Okigwe Zone

The Southern States preliminary matches of the ongoing maiden Sam Okwaraji Secondary Schools U-16 Football Tournament which kicked off in the 17 Southern States of the Federation, Wednesday, continues to present impressive results.

In the Okigwe zone of Imo State, St Dominics Isiala Mbano recorded a hard fought 1-0 victory over St Theresa Secondary Obowo to emerge champions of Okigwe zone.

The match which was played Thursday saw both teams give a good account of themselves, but a lone goal by the Mbano boys was all that was needed to separate the two sides.

With this result, St Dominics has joined Government Secondary School, Owerri in qualifying for the state’s finals.
The Imo State finals will be decided on Sunday, July 5.

The competition is in honour of Sam Okwaraji, who died on the field of play on August, 12, 1989 in a match between Nigeria and Angola.
