Imo State government begins erosion, flood control in Owerri

From Athan Agbakwuru, Owerri
Imo State government has commenced the reconstruction of the drainage system and channels in Owerri, the state capital with a view to controlling and tackling the menace of erosion and flooding in and around the municipality.
The project being undertaken by China Harbour Engineering Company, CHEC, is currently ongoing especially on the failed culverts at Naze/Douglas Road by the Otamiri River bridge.
The company is blinding failed culverts in progress at 2+300 chain age in order to reinforce the bridge and expand the ever busy end of the Owerri/Aba Road.
Same is the case in other sites across the state.
It would be noted that Gov Emeka Ihedioha only recently awarded contracts for the reconstruction of the dilapidated roads in the state, even as he assured that work would begin after the rains.
