“We in the wrestling family want to use valentine day to preach love and peace, so holding a championship two weeks to the Nigeria General elections of 25th February 2023 to elect the President and Vice President as well as members of the Senate and House of Representatives is timely.
“Holding the valentine championship is our own little way of contributing to national unity, security development and enhancing peace in our local societies.
“Peace and unity of the nation should be everybody’s concern including us in the wrestling industry. What is obtainable today by living in peace with ourselves has been the handwork of some people trying to make sure peace reigns. It will surprise you that even after the civil war, we thought we had learnt our lessons which is not so. We all need to live in peace and harmony because there is no alternative to peace’’, he said
The Federation’s President explained further that ‘’Ago-Okota is one of the 11 wards in Oshodi/Isolo LGA where different people with different cultural background, idealogies, religion, ethnicity and orientations are based.
“We need peace to live together and we want to use the championship to campaign for a violence free election. Sports have been a major unifying factor and a greater promoter of peace over the years and this championship will not be an exemption to that.
“Sports is a compelling tool to promote peace, tolerance, and mutual understanding; bringing people together across boundaries, cultures, and religions. Its values such as teamwork, fairness, discipline, and respect are understood all over the world and can be utilized in the advancement of solidarity and social cohesion.
“There is no way we can celebrate under the disguise of crisis rather than in peace. Lots of youths will be at the championship and we will use the event to advice them against electoral indiscipline.
