In a major boost to the growing chorus of honours for late football icon Henry Nwosu (MON), the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has officially confirmed his attendance at this Saturday’s novelty football match between Saint Finbarr’s College Old Boys Association and the Lagos Legends Club/Ex-Internationals.
The match, scheduled for 10:00 am on May 23rd, 2026, at Saint Finbarr’s College, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos, is part of a series of burial events lined up to give the 1980 AFCON winner, a dignified farewell.
Mallam Dikko, known for his passionate advocacy for grassroots sports development and the welfare of Nigeria’s fallen heroes, is expected to arrive at the venue by 9:30 am to interact with the Nwosu’s family, ex-internationals, and the old boys’ community before kickoff.
The presence of the nation’s top sports administrator, underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that Henry Nwosu, is not buried in obscurity.
According to insiders at the NSC, Mallam Dikko sees this match as more than a friendly. It is a national statement that Nigeria honours those who wore its colours with pride.
His attendance is also expected to draw other prominent figures from the NFF, Lagos State Sports Commission, and the broader sports media ecosystem.
Fans, old boys, and football lovers are urged to arrive early, as security and seating arrangements have been upgraded to accommodate the anticipated high-profile crowd.
According to the organisers, “When the Chairman of the NSC steps onto that pitch, it sends a clear message, Henry Nwosu’s legacy will not fade, as we expect a full house.”
