The Nigeria Mixed Martial Arts Federation (NMMAF) has concluded arrangements for the 2nd Sunday Dare Open National MMA Championship scheduled to take place in Bayelsa State from 14th to 18th October 2026.

The championship is being organized by the Nigeria Mixed Martial Arts Federation in conjunction with the Bayelsa State Sports Council, with Bayelsa State serving as host.

The five-day championship is expected to bring together Mixed Martial Artists, coaches, technical officials and other stakeholders from across Nigeria. The event will provide a platform for athletes to compete, develop their skills, discover new talent and contribute to the continued growth of Mixed Martial Arts in Nigeria.

Among the notable personalities expected at the championship are former Minister of Youth and Sports Development and Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Chief Sunday Dare, in whose honour the championship is named; the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri; and the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Daniel Igali.

Chief Sunday Dare, whose name the championship bears, is expected to add significant value to the event and inspire the participating athletes, particularly young Mixed Martial Artists who are pursuing careers in the sport.

Governor Douye Diri, as host governor, is expected to welcome athletes and officials from across the country to Bayelsa State, while the Bayelsa State Sports Council is working with the Federation to support the successful hosting of the championship.

Hon. Daniel Igali, Commissioner for Sports Development in Bayelsa State and an accomplished sports administrator and athlete, is also expected to play an important role in the successful hosting of the championship.

The competition will feature athletes across various weight categories, with participants expected from different parts of the country. Beyond medals and individual achievements, the championship will provide an avenue for talent identification and development, while creating greater awareness and visibility for Mixed Martial Arts in Nigeria.

The 2026 edition is expected to feature enhanced organisation, quality technical officiating and competitive bouts as the NMMAF continues its efforts to develop athletes, strengthen competitions and promote Mixed Martial Arts across Nigeria.

The 2nd Sunday Dare Open National MMA Championship will therefore serve as another important platform for athletes, coaches, officials and stakeholders to come together in advancing the development of Mixed Martial Arts in the country.
