Team Edo targets historic showing at National Sports Festival – Chikere

Team Edo is targeting a historic outing at the National Sports Festival in Enugu, with the Edo State Sports Commission expressing confidence in the team’s preparations ahead of the multi-sport extravaganza.
Executive Director of Sports Development and Operations at the Edo State Sports Commission, Mrs. Sabina Chikere, disclosed this in an interview on Tuesday.
Chikere said preparations are in full swing across the Heartbeat State, with the athletes and officials working towards delivering an impressive performance when competition begins in Enugu.
According to her, Team Edo will approach the festival with determination and a strong desire to make the state proud.
“We are fully prepared and very optimistic about what Team Edo can achieve in Enugu. Our athletes have been working hard, and we believe they have what it takes to produce performances that will make Edo proud,” Chikere said.
She added that the state’s rich sporting heritage would be on full display, promising that the spirit and culture of the Benin Kingdom would resonate throughout the festival.
“The Beats of the Benin Kingdom will be heard loud and clear in Enugu. We are going there not just to participate, but to compete strongly and show the country what Edo State represents in sports,” she declared.
Chikere also commended the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his support and commitment to sports development, noting that the administration’s backing has strengthened the commission’s preparations for the festival.
“We are grateful for the unwavering support of His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo. His commitment has given us the confidence and resources to prepare properly, and we are determined to justify that support with a strong showing in Enugu,” she said.
She further urged Team Edo athletes and officials to remain focused, disciplined and united throughout the competition.
“Our message to the athletes is simple, believe in yourselves, compete with confidence and give your very best. We want Team Edo to leave Enugu with memories of a truly remarkable performance,” Chikere added.
