Oba Oginni Holds Maiden Badminton Rally In Ibadan

The Chairman, Oyo State Badminton Association, HRH Olatunde Oginni JP with other executive members of the association on Friday held maiden edition of Oyo State Badminton Association end of year Rally inside the newly built indoor sports hall of Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba Ibadan.

Athletes that represented the state at the recently held National Sports Festival in Asaba that returned with an improved record of two silvers and two bronze medals were also hosted and appreciated for a job well done.

Addressing the newsmen, The Vice Chairman of the badminton association, Mr. Remi Akinpelu thanked all and sundry that came to felicitate with the association, saying the event is first edition and they hope to continue on such good path which is part of efforts to draw new bloods into the game of squash.

“I will like to appreciate our Chairman for his passion and optimism putting in since he was inaugurated as the boss of the badminton in Oyo State, and despite the short frame of time from the inaugurations and the departure for the festival, the association was still able to impact positively in the preparations of the athletes.

“The Athletes were camped for weeks by the Chairman, Oba Olatunde Oginni with provision of feeding and stipends, this is a commendable gesture, hence we are commencing for the next festival right from the end of Asaba 2022, so I can assure you that sky will be the limit of our athletes at the next festival in Ogun State”, said Akinpelu.

Series of exhibition matches were played to entertain the invited guests, which included traditional fathers, Sports administrators, Badminton enthusiasts from the Ibadan Tennis Club and the top officials of the Oyo State Sports Council.

Director of organization of the Oyo State Sports Council, Kehinde Ojelowo who represented the general manager, Gboyega Makinde at the event presented gifts on behalf of the sports council’s management as an appreciation of the efforts of the Badminton Association to the development of the game to Oba Olatunde Oginni JP.

Among the dignitaries that graced the occasions were HRM Oba Babatunde Adebowale Muideen Balogun, Onisolu of Solu Alade Ajumose 1, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos, HRH, Oba Sunday Ekundayo, Oluroye of Iroko Ekiti, Chief Mrs. Ilesanmi, Chief Ibrahim Adegbose, the President Ibadan Tennis Club, Dr. Oladipo Sule, and the immediate past President of the club, Prince Oluwole Peter Akinyooye, Chairman Oyo State Sports Council, Hon. Gbenga Adewusi Arole among others.
