Okunowo Promise Bigger 2nd IGP Nat. Scrabble Championship, Thanks Police Boss for Support

The Chairman of the Police Scrabble Association, CSP Babafemi Okunowo has revealed his big plans for the second edition of the Inspector General of Police National Scrabble Championship which was first held in Ibadan on Saturday 12th March, 2022.

CSP Okunowo who disclosed this while receiving his nomination letter from the crew of Ibadan Media outfit that has penciled him down for a distinguished service award, described scrabble as a game that polishes one’s mental alertness, while addressing the newsmen in Ibadan.
The Commanding Officer for Swift Response Squad, Oyo State earned and international accolades, one of which was received as Nigeria Police Ambassador to Brazil during the FIFA world Cup in 2014, where he was qualified as valuable and contributory to international sports.
“In line with commitment of the Inspector General of Police IGP Alkali Baba Usman psc(+), NPM, fdc, to build physically and mentally fit officers determined to ensure effective crime management, control and paying full attention to the health and wellness of officers by regularly engaging them in various competitive sports and fitness exercises.
“Sharing this lofty initiative, the Oyo State government partnered with the force to help develop the psycho-intellectual capacity and mental wellness of the officers by organizing the IGP National Scrabble Competition which will enter its second edition this year and has been included in the calendar of event in the Nigeria Scrabble Federations”, Okunowo noted.
While speaking on his effort to help scrabble at the grassroots, Okunowo gave an insight into how he got into the game and his plans to take the game to primary and secondary schools level as a way to catch them young and help the pupils developed their knowledge of the English language using scrabble.
“I started playing scrabble at the age of 14. It is a game I love so much because I’m a person that yearns for intellect, yearns for more knowledge, and yearns for greater studies. And I particularly see the essentiality and importance of speaking good English grammar, if you’re a good scrabble player, you won’t have problems with the English language.
“I see that we don’t need to stop scrabble at this level, but to introduce it to secondary schools and even primary schools, catch them young from primary schools level by teaching them the essentials of the game, two letter words, three letters words and all that and by the time they get to secondary schools they will have so much vocabularies in their heads which will help them greatly when writing WAEC, NECO or SSCE exams”, said the gallant officer.
The Oyo Swift Response Squad boss who was described as a good example of a reliable Policeman with many certificates testifying to his professional competence as investigated by the media independent panel received the Pacesetters Entertainment and Recognition Awards (PERA) special recognition award for outstanding contribution in ensuring safety of lives and property 2022.
He would also this weekend be honoured with a distinguished service award in crime bursting and his outstanding performance in securing the Oyo State environs in the 6th Oyo State Most Influential Award Series, organized by Ibadan Media Limited.
