Following the qualification of his team to the Round of 16 stage of the ongoing President Federation Cup, proprietor of Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) side Ahudiyannem Queens of Abriba Abia State Chief Dr. Robert Onyeani believes that the next stage will be tougher based on the fact that most of the teams that will qualify are premiership sides.
Ahudiyannem Queens Thursday in a match decided in Asaba whitewashed Moje Queens by 5-0 which Dr. Onyeani attributed to tactical discipline but was quick to add that the Round of 16 is where the real action will start in the most prestigious competition in the country.
“We thank God for the victory, we thank God Almighty for giving us this victory against Moje Queens of Kwara State which I consider not to be a strong opponent because now, we 16 teams remaining.”
“So you’re going to meet your mates or your colleagues in the Premier League. So, if we have 16 teams remaining, most likely maybe the whole of the 16 teams, we have a big test to show if we are ready for the Federation Cup. So in the meantime, I congratulate the girls for what they have done”, he said.
Chief Onyeani was however optimistic that his team knows what is at stake and will go all out to win the trophy.
“My happiness is that my players understand what is at stake and they’re really prepared for the challenge. So expect more quality football from Ahudiyannem as the competition gets to it’s critical stage”, he concluded.
Ahudiyannem Queens will now square up against Heartland for a chance to progress to the quarter-final.
