Zenith Bank Inter-School Swimming Gala Holds today at Ikoyi Club
The 2026 edition of the Zenith Bank Inter-School Swimming Gala will take place on today, Saturday, May 23, at the iconic Swimming Section of Ikoyi Club 1938.
Now in its ninth edition, the youth-focused developmental competition has continued to grow into one of the most anticipated grassroots swimming events in the country, with this year’s edition expected to deliver exciting performances and a vibrant atmosphere.
About 20 schools are expected to participate in the “catch-them-young” championship, which serves as a platform for discovering and nurturing the next generation of swimming talents.
Young swimmers will compete for honours across the major swimming strokes, Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, Butterfly, and Individual Medley. Races would be held across age categories for both Prinary and Secondary Schools.
Chairman of the Swimming Section of Ikoyi Club 1938, Akinbulejo Onabolu, expressed confidence in the preparations for the event, noting that the competition has attracted impressive participation from schools across Lagos.
According to Onabolu, the organising committee has worked extensively to ensure a memorable and rewarding experience for swimmers, parents, schools, and guests attending the event.
“It has always been a joy for us to welcome young swimmers to Ikoyi Club and watch them grow in a competitive but supportive environment,” he said.
“Beyond the competition itself, we value the friendships, discipline, confidence, and exposure that these young athletes gain through events like this. These experiences contribute significantly to their personal growth and development.”
He further highlighted the importance of the partnership with Zenith Bank, commending the bank for its sustained commitment to youth and sports development.
