Zenith Bank Team Tennis Tourney: Interesting results headline opening day at Ikoyi Club

The Zenith Bank 2026 Team Tennis Tournament began on Monday evening with interesting results at the tennis courts of the Ikoyi Club 1938.

At this early stage of the competition the players are competing in a best of nine games format which will change into best of three sets in the semi-final stage.

The players are already drawn into different groups named after Zenith Bank products, like Diaspora Banking, Prestige Banking, Scan to Pay, Zenith Easy Banking, etc.

In some of the early games on Monday, the current Chairman of the Tennis Section, Victor Onyenkpa representing Zenith Easy Banking Team, was defeated 6-3 by Akeem Mustafa, a former Chairman of the Section representing Zenith Aspire Team in a very thrilling encounter that kept the club members at the edge of their seats.

The two were going toe-to-toe until 3-3, when Akeem changed strategy and zoomed to victory.

Azubuike Okonkwo also ofthe Zenith Aspire Team, defeated Hilary Eledu of Zenith Easy Banking Team with the same margin.

Kalada Kienka, of the Diaspora Banking Team had an easy ride as he whitewashed Emeka Azinge of the Prestige Banking Team 9-0.

In other games from the Blue Group, Pascal Ebhohimen had it tough with Uzor Nwankwo before he eventually won 5-4 in a very tight encounter while Thomas Ighodalo whipped Jide Ntephe 8-1 in a one-sided encounter.

Tennis Section Chairman, Onyenkpa, told our correspondent that he was very impressed with the quality of games played on the opening day of the event.

He expressed optimism that the competition would get even better and fiercer, in the days ahead.
