Hon. Adebola Sofela Rejects Alleged APC Consensus Arrangement for Ogun Central Senate Seat

The Campaign Organization of Adebola Emmanuel Sofela has rejected reports suggesting that Shuaib Afolabi Salisu has emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the Ogun Central Senatorial District ahead of the party’s primary election.

In a statement dated May 14, 2026, and signed by the Media Directorate of the Sofela Campaign Organization, the group described the reports as “political insinuations” and reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles within the party.

The statement noted that while the APC remains a progressive platform that promotes healthy political competition and equal opportunities for members, Hon. Adebola Sofela, a chartered accountant and investment banker with professional fellowships including FCS, FCIB, and FCA, does not support any arrangement capable of denying qualified aspirants their constitutional and democratic rights to participate in the party’s primary process.

According to the campaign organization, recent national guidelines and press statements issued by the APC concerning candidate nominations align with Section 84(9) of Nigeria’s Electoral Act, which stipulates that a consensus candidate can only emerge where all duly cleared aspirants voluntarily agree in writing to withdraw and endorse a single candidate.

The group stressed that where such unanimous agreement is absent, the law requires the party to conduct either a direct or indirect primary election.

The organization further expressed concern over what it described as attempts to impose or prematurely endorse a candidate under the guise of consensus without broad consultation among aspirants and party stakeholders.

It warned that such moves could create avoidable discontent within the party and undermine the spirit of internal democracy which the APC represents.

The statement added that its position was not intended as an act of disrespect, but rather a demonstration of commitment to fairness, inclusiveness, democratic values, and the long-term unity of the party in Ogun Central Senatorial District.

The campaign organization therefore appealed to party leaders at all levels to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants by allowing delegates and stakeholders to freely determine the party’s candidate through a transparent and democratic primary election.

It also reaffirmed Hon. Sofela’s commitment to the peace, unity, and electoral success of the APC, stating that he would continue engaging party members and stakeholders across Ogun Central with his vision for purposeful representation, grassroots development, innovative leadership, and inclusive governance.

The organization concluded by urging party faithful and supporters to remain calm, law-abiding, and steadfast as preparations continue for what it described as a democratic and credible primary process.
