The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared its readiness to contest for national leadership in the 2027 general election, insisting that the era of predetermined election results must give way to a process that reflects the will of the electorate.
The party’s National Chairman, Sen. Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, while welcoming members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to the party’s third NEC meeting in Abuja on Monday, described the NDC as a party ordained to rescue Nigeria, pledging to defend its votes and pursue a change of leadership through the electoral process.
He said the party had fulfilled the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) scheduled activities for the 2027 general election and had produced its candidates for the polls.
According to him, the NDC is prepared to protect its electoral mandate and challenge any attempt to undermine the credibility of the forthcoming elections.
“There will be no scripted results this time around,” the chairman declared, expressing the party’s determination to defend its votes and seek to take over the leadership of the country.
He described the NDC as a generational party with its sights set on the future of Nigerian youths, stressing that its political vision was focused on creating opportunities for the next generation.
The chairman also dismissed social media controversies surrounding the party, saying the NDC would not be distracted by what he described as rascality on social media over what the party was doing or not doing.
Instead, he said the party would remain focused on its political activities and preparations for the 2027 elections.
In a major announcement that drew admiration from NEC members, the chairman disclosed that the party had acquired a new national secretariat in Abuja, a development that signals its commitment to strengthening its administrative structure and expanding its organisational capacity.
Earlier, the National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu called for the adoption of the agenda for the NEC meeting.
The motion was moved by the Adamawa State Chairman of the party and seconded by the Plateau State Chairman.
The National Secretary also read the minutes of the previous NEC meeting, which were subsequently adopted after a motion moved by Sen. Victor Umeh and seconded by Sen. Nkechi Nworgu.
Meanwhile, the party’s National Treasurer, Peter Odey, presented an account of the NDC’s finances, disclosing that the party had generated more than N8bn since its inception this year.
He said over N6bn remained intact, while approximately N2bn had been spent on party activities.
The financial report provided NEC members with an overview of the party’s reported revenue, expenditure and available funds as it intensifies preparations for the 2027 general election.
The meeting comes as the NDC positions itself for the next electoral cycle, with its leadership projecting confidence in the party’s readiness, organisational development and ambition to compete for national power.
