Plot to hijack Owerri Zone PDP senatorial primary uncovered

The Equity Mandate Group, EMG, a political pressure group, has revealed that there is thick and deep plot to hijack the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, senatorial primary election slated to hold today in Imo State.
In a statement issued today(Wednesday) by the convener of EMG, Comrade Uka Anya Okorie, the group disclosed that the party hierarchy in the state, working in concert with some top national officers, have concluded arrangements to arbitrary adopt one of the aspirants as consensus candidate, without consultation with other aspirants.
The group hinted that the hideous plot followed a gang-up against the most qualified aspirant, Hon. Greg Egu, who the plotters believe will win the primary in Imo East(Owerri) in a free and transparent contest, pointing out that they claimed he will not succumb to the consensus gimmick.
Okorie further disclosed that the conspiracy against Hon. Egu was first exposed in a sponsored online news by the anti-Egu gang alleging that the former federal legislator intends to quit PDP to join Atiku Abubakar in ADC to take a purportedly reserved senate ticket.
The group which described the defection allegation as total fallacy designed to mislead the public and malign Hon. Egu, urged the leaders and members of PDP in Owerri Zone to resist the covert plot by a few individuals to impose an unpopular candidate on the party.
“We carefully decoded every information about the plot to stop Hon. Greg Egu and decided to come open to alert the public.
“Hon. Greg Egu is the most qualified aspirant to fly the flag of PDP, if the party has genuine interest to win the coming election in 2027. Egu, as a former federal legislator is not going to be a learner or bench warmer in the National Assembly. He is the only aspirant among the three that has that advantage.
“Above all, Hon. Egu has been with the PDP, a strong ally and pillar of support of the National A Secretary, Sen. Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu throughout the trying times. He also comes from the only political bloc in Imo East Zone that has not produced a senator. Since other blocs have had their turns, it’s better to give Ngor Okpala a chance through Greg Egu.
“Imo PDP must, as matter of necessity, allow equity and justice to prevail, reward loyalty and commitment for one who has faithfully served the party for nearly two decades now. Let the party by consensus cede to him, or conduct direct primary to allow all members to decide their choice,” the group submitted.
