2027: Amadi emerges APP’s Imo East consensus candidate

Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi has won the senatorial ticket of the Action Peoples Party, APP, for Imo East (Owerri) District in the coming 2027 general elections.
Amadi was officially adopted as the APP consensus candidate following a unanimous resolution during a well-attended zonal congress of the party held Saturday at the Iwuanyanwu Glass House State Secretariat of the party.
In statement issued after the zonal congress, Cajetan Duke, Chief Press Secretary to Dr. Amadi disclosed that delegates, stakeholders, and party leaders from across the nine local government areas of Owerri Zone unanimously endorsed Amadi’s candidature.
According to him, the peaceful congress reflected unity, enthusiasm, and a collective resolve to promote purposeful and people-oriented leadership in Imo East Senatorial Zone.
His words, “The nomination followed a motion moved by Hon. Ugochukwu Metford Nnah, the APP LGA Chairman of Mbaitoli, and seconded by Engr. Henry Alaribe, the Zonal Chairman of the party.
Delegates reportedly gave overwhelming support to the motion, signaling broad acceptance of Dr. Amadi’s senatorial ambition and leadership credentials.
“The congress was conducted by a team led by Barr. Obed Agor and monitored by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including the Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner. Several party leaders and stakeholders also attended the event, among them the National Chairman of APP, Barr. Uche Nnadi, members of the National Executive Committee, National Assembly members affiliated with the party, and newly emerged House of Representatives candidates.
“Party stakeholders described Dr. Amadi as a bridge-builder, grassroots mobilizer, and a leader with the intellectual and political capacity to effectively represent Owerri Zone at the National Assembly.
They stated that his emergence was the product of broad consultations and consensus among party faithful who believe the zone deserves competent and people-focused representation.
“The APP further highlighted Dr. Amadi’s popularity among youths, women, professionals, and community leaders, attributing it to his humanitarian engagements, empowerment initiatives, and community development projects across the zone.”
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Amadi expressed gratitude to party leaders and delegates for the confidence reposed in him and described the nomination as both humbling and challenging.
While assuring supporters that his political mission is centered on service, accountability, and measurable impact on the lives of citizens he declared, “The journey to Imo redemption has begun.”
Dr. Amadi used the occasion to raise concerns over insecurity and the loss of innocent lives in Imo State, lamenting what he described as government indifference to the suffering of the people.
Duke noted that the successful congress demonstrated “a renewed commitment by the APP to internal democracy, transparency, party unity, and issue-based politics aimed at advancing development and good governance in Imo State.”
