Ex-PCRC chairman vows to sustain anti-cultism campaign in Imo State

The immediate past State chairman of Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, Imo State chapter, Mr. Chima Chukwunyere, has announced his determination to continue and sustain the Anti-cultism Campaign in schools across the state, despite being out of office.
Addressing newsmen in Owerri Wednesday, Chukwunyere who disclosed that the campaign he initiated during his tenure had covered 88 schools since inception of the programme in 2016, and the 89th and 90th school outings will be dedicated to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu for his courageous stance against cultism and other crimes.
Chukwunyere who is also the National Consultant on Community Policing to PCRC national leadership, called for support to enable him keep the campaign running just as he urged traditional rulers, community and religious leaders to feel free to contact the PCRC to educate their children and youths about the ills associated with vices.
According to him, the school anti-cultism campaign and his weekly radio program on Zanders FM, Owerri have tremendously impacted the society with many student cultists openly renouncing their membership during the school outings.
He lamented that politicians have been found to sponsor cult activities and cultists and called on political actors to stop patronizing cultists by engaging them as thugs before and during the 2027 general elections.
Chukwunyere expressed appreciation to his wife, Mrs. Millicent Chukwunyere for the support as motivational speaker during the outings and also thanked his daughter, the Imo PCRC Chairman, Dr. Bertram Uzodinma, for their physical and moral support.
He also thanked Aboh Mbaise PCRC Chairman, Mr Boniface Erege who donated the sum of N250,000 to support the campaign, as well as the committee’s life patron and Chief Executive Officer of Zanders FM, Owerri, Chief Kennedy Zanders for granting free airtime to the PCRC for the publicity of its activities.
Recounting his achievements as Imo PCRC chairman, he said, “We collaborated with SU members to reach the hearts of students, have been on radio for over 14 years, and, as a result, many students have renounced cultism and other vices.
“Between August 2008 and November 2025, I gave the police complementary hotel accommodation for police officers on transfer and special duties to the tone of N8,950,000, in addition to their unpaid house rent of N1,300,000”, he said.
Chukwunyere further hinted that his Anti-cultism Campaign has been taken to nursery and primary schools in order to catch them young, stressing that recent incidents where a seven year old boy and another boy of same age bracket were caught in armed robbery and murder calls for urgent concern.
