GTI Media Chief Andrew Ekejiuba Gives Mother a Befitting Farewell as Dignitaries Gather in Imo
Family, friends, sports personalities and prominent dignitaries converged on Amaulu Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State on Friday, July 3, 2026, as GTI Head of Media and Publicity, Andrew Ekejiuba, laid his mother, Lolo Ezinne Catherine Adanna Ekejiuba (née Asiegbu), to rest, Puyaka.net reports.
The late matriarch, who passed away at the age of 90, was honoured with a solemn Requiem Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Amaulu, where prayers were offered for the peaceful repose of her soul. The funeral rites later continued at the Ekejiuba family compound, where guests were received at a colourful reception celebrating her remarkable life and enduring legacy.
The ceremony drew an impressive gathering of family members, friends, associates, sports stakeholders and colleagues from across Nigeria, reflecting the deep respect enjoyed by both the late Lolo Ezinne Catherine Adanna Ekejiuba and her family.
Among those present were members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State chapter, led by Chairman Cosmos Chukwuemeka alongside Benny Naza, who joined other mourners in paying their final respects. They also extended condolences to the Ekejiuba family while offering prayers for the peaceful repose of the deceased.
Coach Emmanuel Osigwe was also among the notable personalities who attended the burial ceremony.
Speaking during the funeral, an emotional Andrew Ekejiuba paid glowing tribute to his mother, describing her as a woman whose life reflected the finest values of the Igbo culture.
“Mama was the very embodiment of the noble virtues cherished in Igbo culture, a loving mother, a devoted wife, a compassionate neighbour and a wise elder.”
He added that beyond being a parent, she was the foundation upon which her children built their lives.
“To us, her children, Mama was our first teacher, our greatest cheerleader, our counsellor and our refuge. She taught us the values of hard work, honesty, humility and perseverance.”
Throughout the ceremony, tributes from relatives, friends and associates painted the picture of a woman who lived a life of service, compassion and unwavering commitment to her family and community.
The large turnout and seamless organisation of the burial underscored the esteem in which Andrew Ekejiuba is held within the media and sports fraternity, while serving as a fitting farewell to a woman whose impact will continue to resonate through generations.
Lolo Ezinne Catherine Adanna Ekejiuba is survived by her children, grandchildren and an extended family, all of whom celebrated a life marked by faith, love and selfless service.
