
Pope Leo XIV appoints Bishop Ogun Apostolic Administrator of Archdiocese of Benin City
Following the untimely death of the Catholic Archbishop of Benin City His Grace, the Most Rev. Augustine Obiora, Pope Leo XIV has appointed the Bishop of Uromi Diocese, the Most Rev, Donatus Ogun, O.S.A as the Apostolic Adminstrator of the Archbishop of Benin City pending the appointment of a new Archbishop.
In a letter of notification signed by the Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, Michael. F. Crotty and addressed to the Chancellor of the Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Michael Oyanoafoh, the Holy See said the appointment is with immediate effect and made for the interim governance of the Archdiocese of Benin City while it becomes vacant.
The letter, while extending it’s condolences to the Archdiocese, advised the Chancellor to notify the clergy, priests, religious and lay faithful of the Archdiocese of the new development.
