HFN President Jibril Ojih Mourns Veteran Sports Journalist Niyi Oyeleke
The President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Jibril Saidu Ojih (FNIQS), has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of veteran sports journalist Niyi Oyeleke, who died on Tuesday after a protracted illness.
In a condolence message, Ojih described the late Oyeleke as a passionate supporter of handball in Nigeria and a respected voice in sports journalism whose contributions to the growth of the game will always be remembered.
According to the HFN President, Oyeleke consistently gave visibility to handball throughout his distinguished career, first during his time with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and later while serving as Production Manager at SuperSport.
Ojih noted that Oyeleke’s dedication to covering and promoting sports, particularly handball, played a significant role in increasing awareness and appreciation of the game across the country.
“Late Niyi Oyeleke was a strong supporter of handball in Nigeria. Through his work at NTA and later at SuperSport, he always ensured that the sport received coverage and recognition.
“His passion for sports journalism and his commitment to telling the stories of athletes and federations will not be forgotten,” Ojih said.
On behalf of the Nigeria handball family, the HFN President commiserated with the family of the deceased as well as the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) over the painful loss.
He prayed for the repose of Oyeleke’s soul and for strength and comfort for those he left behind during this difficult time.
