Council takeover: Court restrains suspended Imo LG chairmen, councillors

From Athan Agbakwuru, Owerri
An Owerri High Court presided over by Hon. Justice Eze Ohiri Njemanze, Tuesday granted an Order restraining suspended Local Government Chairmen, councillors and their agents from disturbing the peace of the State and trying to invade the Local Goverment Areas, pending the determination of their original motion which will be heard on 28th of January, 2020.
The Attorney General of Imo State, Ndukwe Nnawuchi,SAN, who spoke after the Court session noted that the State approached the court owing to the resolve of the Rebuild Imo Administration under Governor Emeka Ihedioha, CON, to abide and uphold the Rule of Law.
It would be recalled that the suspended chairmen and their agents had last Monday stormed the council headquarters of the 27 LGA in an attempt to forcibly return themselves to office following a recent Supreme Court ruling in a case between the Ekiti State government and suspended LG chairmen and councillors.
The action of the embattled ex council bosses sparked off violence which resulted in the killing of one young man and injuring of scores of persons on that fateful day.
