Budapest 2027 World Aquatics Championships: Event’s logo, visual identity and slogan unveiled at the MVM Dome
To mark one year until the start of the Budapest 2027 World Aquatics Championships, the event’s logo, visual identity and slogan – Make Waves! – were unveiled at the MVM Dome, the impressive venue which will host Swimming and Water Polo.
Budapest will become the first city to host the World Aquatics Championships for the third time, following on from the hugely successful 2017 and 2022editions.
Athletes from more than 200 countries will compete across all aquatic sports in the Hungarian capital in 2027, while the event will also serve as an Olympic qualifier to further raise the stakes.
World Aquatics President Husain Al Musallam reflected on the one-year-to-go milestone.
“Today marks a hugely exciting milestone on the road to Budapest 2027 – one year to go until what promises to be a truly spectacular World Aquatics Championships. Budapest holds a very special place in the history of our sport. The success of the 2017 and 2022 World Aquatics Championships, and the 2024 World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m), showed the world what Budapest is capable of – and we have no doubt that 2027 will surpass even those extraordinary editions. It is an incredibly exciting time for aquatic sports, and we cannot wait to welcome the world to Budapest next year.”
After looking back on memorable moments from the 2017 and 2022 World Aquatics Championships, Attila Kálnoki-Kiss, the State Secretary for Sport, highlighted that the success of the previous two editions proved that Hungary is capable of hosting the biggest sporting events.
“The true value of hosting the World Aquatics Championships lies in its long-term legacy, and that means far more than economic figures alone. Of course, those also matter a lot, but perhaps a good example is the case of Hubert Kós, who was one of the talented youngsters in 2017 cheering on Katinká Hosszúand her team from the stands. This experience meant a lot for his future career – and now we see him as one of the golden stars of Hungarian aquatics.”
Brent Nowicki, Executive Director of World Aquatics, attended the event at the MVM Dome and said:
“Being here at the MVM Dome in Budapest today and seeing the unveiling of the Budapest 2027 World Aquatics Championships logo brings home just how close we are to something really special. Budapest has consistently shown that it understands what makes a great World Aquatics Championships: the venues, the atmosphere, and the passion of the fans. As World Aquatics transitions its headquarters to Budapest, our partnership with this city is stronger than ever. The athletes love competing here, and we look forward to seeing the very best in the world return to this fitting stage next year.”
Co-Chair of the Organising Committee and President of the Hungarian Swimming Federation, Sándor Wladár, also emphasised that hosting the World Aquatics Championships can inspire future generations.
“In recent years, Hungarian swimming has given the country many unforgettable moments. World champions, Olympic champions, world records and new role models have been born. But it is just as important that behind the successes there is a strong youth base, hundreds of clubs and thousands of young athletes. The most important mission for the Hungarian Swimming Federation is to be able to give these young people a future, motivation and role models. And a home World Championships always means more than a competition: inspiration and new dreams.”
The Budapest 2027 World Aquatics Championships will take place from 26 June – 18 July 2027.
