Tinubu’s intervention resolves Rivers political crisis, as factions sign peace agreement

Following the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the political crisis which engulfed Rivers State seems to be coming to an end.
In an agreement signed Monday night by the two factions and sighted by newstap.com.ng, the factions resolved that all matters instituted in the Courts by the Governor of Rivers State and his team in respect of the political crisis in the state should be withdrawn immediately.
It was also agreed that all impeachment proceedings instituted against the Governor of Rivers State by the State House of Assembly shall be dropped immediately while the leadership of the House of Assembly as led by Martin Amaewhule shall be recognized alongside the 27 members who defected to the PDP.
The factions further agreed that the renumeration and benefits of the House of Assembly members and their staff must be re- instated immediately and the Governor of Rivers State shall henceforth not interfere with the full funding of the Assembly.
It was also agreed that the Rivers State House of Assembly shall choose where they want to sit and conduct their legislative business without interference/ hindrance from the Executive Arm of the Government.
Furthermore, the Governor of Rivers State shall represent the state budget to a properly constituted Rivers State House of Assembly while the names of all Commissioners in the Rivers State Executive Council who resigned their appointment because of the political crisis in the state shall be resubmitted to the House of Assembly for approval.
Finally, both parties agreed that there shall not be a caretaker committee for the Local Government Areas in Rivers State and that the dissolution of the Local Government Administrations is null and void and shall not be recognized.
