This much was confirmed by the erstwhile Polonia Warsaw ace during an exclusive telephone chat with Newstap.ng.
Speaking on his appointment, Ekwueme revealed his willingness to work with the Heartland management.
“I’m indeed pleased to inform you that I have been named Heartland new sporting director. This is a great honor and I am humbled. I will do my best to justify the confidence the club has reposed in me. Hopefully, my team and I will bring in our wealth of experience in football to return Heartland back to its glorious days. I’m impressed with the caliber of technocrats I’m going to work with on the board. They are incredible, I’m really overwhelmed and looking forward to working with them.”
Ekwueme who holds a UEFA Pro B coaching License made his international debut for Nigeria in a Nations Cup qualifier match against Madagascar in 2001. He featured for defunct NEPA FC of Lagos and Jasper United before moving to Europe in search of greener pastures.
