Imo govt poised to improve environmental hygiene, engages field workers

Imo State Government through its Ministry of Sanitation and Hygiene has disclosed its resolve to ensure improved environmental sanitation and hygiene across the state with the recent engagement of trained Environmental Health Field Assistants for ease of operations and achievement of maximum result.
Receiving the team of Field Assistants in his office last Friday, the Commissioner for Sanitation and Hygiene, Dr. Elias Martins Emedom, advised them to see themselves as servants of the people and ensure that they work in synergy with the staff of his ministry and other agencies of the state government saddled with similar responsibilities.
Dr Emedom while also charging them to operate within the confines of the enabling law guiding their operations, reminded the team of the need to be transparent, honest and diligent in carrying out their functions.
He bemoaned the lackadaisical attitude of many people and organizations towards environmental sanitation and hygiene pointing out that both are indispensable factors for healthy living and meaningful business ventures in any society.
The commissioner further enjoined them to tap into 3R Mantra of the present administration by shunning all manner of vices capable of denting the image of the state government.
“The 3R mantra of Governor Hope Uzodimma is people friendly and therefore, you must be friendly with the public, shun thuggery and all manner of violence in the performance of your duties. You also have to be sincere and transparent in revenue collection and ensure to pay same to the Government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA) as at and when due.
“Please work within the confines of the law and I do not want a situation whereby you will go to the field and become a problem to us or the field becomes a problem to you,” Dr Emedom advised.
Speaking earlier while presenting the field assistants remarks earlier, the consultant in charge of the team, Chief Austin Nnodim, informed the commissioner that the team was carefully selected, screened and trained before they will be drafted into the field.
Chief Nnodim, who is the MD/CEO of Ezelukwu Ventures Nig. Ltd pointed out that his team is ready to commence operations, without delay, promising that the field workers will operate strictly in line with government’s official mandate on awareness creation.
He further assured that the team would adhere strictly to the template of the government to discharge its functions stressing that his firm with tremendous experience, impeccable track record and application of effective methodology on environmental issues would not let the state down.
“Be assured this team will not work at across purposes with the activities of the Ministry since there are laws and regulations guiding its operations. We have come as partners in progress and we will put in our best for the ministry and state government to reap the gains of our partnership,” he submitted.
