Nigerian coaches not good for Eagles’ job- Afini

As Nigerian coaches continue to agitate for more role in the national team’s job, former Chairman of Lagos State Football Association, Taiwo Afini has come out to pass a vote of no confidence on them with a declaration that they don’t have what it takes to handle the national team.
In an exclusive interview with newstap.com.ng, he challenged the coaches to mention any of them that has the pedigree to thinker the Super Eagles to stardom insisting that for now a foreign coach is the best option towards moving Nigerian football forward.
“It beats my imagination to hear that since the NFF decided to hire a new coach for the Super Eagles that our local coaches have been clamouring that one of them should be considered for the job”, began the former Chairman Youths Sports Federation of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter.
” I want to challenge them to tell me any of them that can handle the senior national team. What they should concentrate now is improving themselves because as things stands today , only a foreign coach will command the respect of both the players and the football house.
He stated that it’s unfortunate that Nigerian coaches who for many years cannot win any continental club title will be eyeing the Super Eagles job just as he advised the NFF to look beyond sentiment in appointing the next national team Coach.
“There is no denying the fact that we have some good coaches and both late coaches, Amodu Shuaibu and Stephen Keshi qualified the country for the world cup with Keshi even going ahead to win the Nations Cup when nobody gave him chance but the question is how many of the present day coaches have their quality”, stressed the one time Chairman of Ajeromi/ Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State.
