Jane Ijirigho: The Goalkeeping Brain Behind Flamingos’ Performance

The quality of goalkeeping displayed by Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, is another testament to the technical brilliance and dedication of their goalkeeper trainer, Coach Kola Ige.

A tactically sound and exceptionally committed trainer, Ige has continued to demonstrate his wealth of experience through the development, confidence and improved performances of the team’s two goalkeepers.

His attention to detail, technical discipline, positioning, reflexes, shot-stopping ability and command of the goal area reflect a coach who understands the demands of modern goalkeeping.

A former U-20 goalkeeper at the 2005 FIFA World Cup, Ige brings valuable international experience to his present assignment. His coaching credentials are further highlighted by his contribution to the development of Onyinyechi Opara, who emerged as the Best Goalkeeper at the WAFU U-17 competition.

Currently serving as a goalkeeper trainer with Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, Kola Ige continues to demonstrate that quality goalkeeping is not accidental but the product of patience, knowledge, discipline and purposeful training.

His contribution to the Flamingos deserves recognition, particularly for the confidence and quality he is helping to build in the team’s two goalkeepers.

Coach Kola Ige is certainly one of the dedicated technical minds working behind the scenes to shape the future of Nigerian football. As it stands, the Oluyole Warriors might not be able to secure the services of the experienced trainer as he’s considering many options available in other club sides.
