NBBF Congratulates Nigerian Stars Selected In The 2026 NBA Draft
The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) extends its heartfelt congratulations to the exceptional Nigerian talents selected in the 2026 NBA Draft, marking another historic milestone for Nigerian basketball and further reinforcing the country’s growing influence on the global game.
The Federation proudly celebrates the achievements of; Ebuka Okorie, 17th Overall Pick (Oklahoma City Thunder, subsequently traded to the Detroit Pistons); Zuby Ejiofor, 23rd Overall Pick (Atlanta Hawks); Otega Oweh, 41st Overall Pick (Miami Heat, subsequently traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder).
Others are, Felix Okpara, 46th Overall Pick (Orlando Magic); Tobi Lawal, 48th Overall Pick (Dallas Mavericks) and Ugonna Onyenso, 53rd Overall Pick (Houston Rockets, subsequently traded to the Detroit Pistons).
These young men represent the next generation of Nigerian basketball excellence. Their journeys from grassroots basketball to collegiate success and now the NBA, serve as a powerful source of inspiration for millions of young Nigerians who dream of reaching the highest levels of the sport.
NBBF President Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida praised the draftees and highlighted the significance of their accomplishments.

The Federation also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of parents, coaches, schools, academies, collegiate programs, and mentors whose guidance helped shape the athletes’ development.
As the Federation continues implementing its long-term vision for basketball development under the leadership of President Kida, the emergence of Nigerian talent at the highest levels of the game, further validates the importance of sustained investment in youth development, grassroots programs, and international pathways.
The NBBF wishes all six draftees successful rookie seasons and looks forward to their continued contributions to basketball both in the NBA and, when called upon, in representing D’Tigers on the international stage.
