Lagos House of Assembly Speaker, Obasa Impeached

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday impeached its Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, citing multiple financial and statutory violations.

Deputy Speaker Lasbat Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency 1 and formerly served as the House’s chief whip, was swiftly appointed as his replacement.

The move comes just days after reports of his role in facilitating the withdrawal of N43.5 billion for backup vehicles for lawmakers, alongside other disputed activities.

Obasa has also been accused of spending N17 billion on a gate to the assembly complex, which critics argue is excessive and fraudulent. There have also been allegations of mishandling constituency funds and projects.
