National Sports Festival: Gov Ihedioha, sports minister inspect Dan Anyiam Stadium

Imo State on Thursday took bold steps towards realizing her dream of hosting the 2022 National Sports Festival as Governor Emeka Ihedioha led the Minister of Sports, Hon Sunday Dare on an inspection of some of the facilities designated to host the event.
The governor and his entourage which included Hon Dare arrived at the Dan Anyiam Stadium at about 10 in the morning and went straight to the main bowl of the stadium which is still undergoing massive renovation to bring the facilities up to the required standard.
The main pitch was being regrassed with groundsmen working while construction workers were busy working on the terraces which had been in a state of disrepair under the previous regime.
The governor and the minister were assured by the contractors handling the various renovation works at the stadium that the facilities will be ready before the next round of inspection.
The entourage also inspected the indoor sports before moving to the prestigious Concorde Hotel venue of the Imo Sports Summit.
In his speech,Hon Dare revealed that since he became minister, Imo was the first state in the South East he will be visiting because he felt Governor Ihedioha shared the same aspirations with the sports ministry.
“During our inspection of some sports facilities in the state,my mood moved from that of depression to hope because it’s obvious the governor has started matching words with action on his mission to rebuild Imo.”
Before the Sports Summit started at the Concorde Hotel, the Deputy Governor of the state Hon Gerald Irona officially unveiled the mascot for the Imo 2022 bid.
Before then, members of the bidding committee chaired by former AFN president,Dan Ngerem were inaugurated.
The chairman of the Imo State Sports Commission, Chief Fan Ndubuoke revealed that the hosting bid torch will begin a tour of all the 27 local government councils in the state from Monday, December 1.
